--March, 1886 - (Oberlin, OH) Scientist and Oberlin native Charles Martin Hall discovers an easy process to produce aluminum in his laboratory, just a short distance from the Oberlin Tribune offices. Hall later founded the Aluminum Corporation of America (ALCOA). Hall’s discovery was touted in the pages of the Oberlin Tribune, predecessor to the Oberlin News-Tribune.
